Bat Removal in Uxbridge: The Short Answer
Diamo Pest Control & Wildlife handles bat removal in Uxbridge for homes, century farmhouses, barns and cottages, and we do it by exclusion: one-way devices let the colony leave on its own, then every gap is sealed so it cannot come back. No bat is trapped, poisoned or killed. Ontario lists the little brown bat and the northern long-eared bat as endangered, and the province’s own guidance says bats must never be trapped inside a structure.
Timing decides most bat jobs. Exclusion runs from April to early May and again from late August to November. Between mid-May and mid-August, flightless pups are in the roost, so we inspect and plan, and the exclusion waits until the young can fly.
The inspection is $85 and is waived when you book the work. Wildlife removal starts at $250, and bat exclusion is quoted after the inspection because the price depends on how many openings need sealing. Call (647) 901-6024 or request an estimate.
Why Uxbridge Has More Bat Calls Than the City
Uxbridge Township sits on the Oak Ridges Moraine, and the moraine is good bat country. Kettle lakes, wetlands and forest edges produce the insects bats feed on all summer. The buildings around them provide the warm, dry roosts a maternity colony needs.
Ontario’s species page for the little brown bat names its summer colony sites directly: attics, abandoned buildings and barns. Rural Uxbridge has plenty of all three. The calls we get here usually involve:
When Bats Can Be Removed in Uxbridge
The windows below follow the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources guide Bats in Buildings: A Guide to Safe and Humane Exclusions. We schedule every Uxbridge bat job against them. Excluding a colony at the wrong time strands flightless pups, or bats in hibernation, inside the building.
| Time of year | What is in the roost | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| April to early May | Bats returning, no pups yet | Install one-way exclusion devices on the active openings and seal every secondary gap |
| Mid-May to mid-August | Maternity colony with flightless pups | No exclusion. We inspect, watch the evening emergence to find every exit, and book the exclusion for late summer |
| Late August to November | Young can fly; some bats remain | The main exclusion window: one-way devices, then full sealing once the colony has left |
| December to March | Some big brown bats may overwinter in walls or attics | Seal openings only once we are sure no bats remain. Evicting bats in winter would kill them |
If you are hearing scratching in July, the pups are probably still in the roost. Book the inspection anyway. Every exit point we map during the summer emergence is one we will not miss at exclusion time.
How a Bat Exclusion Works
What We Will Not Do
Ontario’s guidance on preventing conflicts with bats states that endangered and threatened bats cannot be harassed, captured or killed, and that bats should never be trapped inside a structure. So we will not:

Bats, Rabies and Durham Region Public Health
Most bats do not carry rabies, but some do, and Uxbridge is in Durham Region, where the Health Department has confirmed rabid bats in recent years. Durham Region requires animal bites involving a person to be reported to the Durham Region Health Department.
If anyone in the house may have touched a bat, or woke up with one in the room, wash the area with soap and water, call your doctor, and contact the Health Department before the bat is released or thrown away, because they may want it tested. Do not handle a bat with bare hands. Our job is the building: getting the colony out and keeping it out.
Bats in the barn, not the house
A colony in a barn or drive shed is not automatically a problem, and on an Uxbridge farm it may well be an endangered species. What usually matters is keeping bats out of the house, and keeping guano out of hay, feed and equipment storage. We will tell you honestly whether a barn colony needs excluding. Work that affects an endangered species can need an authorization from the province, and we tell you before any work starts if yours does.

Bat Removal in Uxbridge: Common Questions
Not between mid-May and mid-August. That is the maternity season, when flightless pups are in the roost, and Ontario’s bat exclusion guidance warns that pups separated from their mothers will die. During those months we inspect, watch the evening emergence to map every exit, and seal off the living space if a bat is getting into rooms. The exclusion itself is booked for late August onward, once the young can fly.
No. Ontario says endangered and threatened bats cannot be harassed, captured or killed, and that bats should never be trapped inside a structure. The little brown bat, the species most often found in Ontario attics and barns, is listed as endangered. We use one-way exclusion devices so the colony leaves on its own, then seal the building.
Close the doors to the rest of the house, open a window in that room, turn off the lights and give the bat time to fly out. Do not touch it with bare hands. If anyone may have had contact with the bat, including waking up with it in the room, wash any contact area with soap and water, call your doctor, and contact the Durham Region Health Department before the bat is released or thrown away. Then call us to find out how it got in.
Not necessarily. A barn colony may be an endangered species, and work that affects one can need an authorization from the province. In most cases what matters is keeping bats out of the house and guano out of hay, feed and equipment storage. We will inspect the barn and tell you plainly whether excluding the colony is worth doing.
The on-site inspection is $85 and is waived when you go ahead with the work. Wildlife removal starts at $250. Bat exclusion is quoted after the inspection, because the price depends on how many openings the building has and how much sealing and guano clean-up is needed. New customers save 10% on their first service.
Yes. Once the colony is out, we remove contaminated insulation and droppings with respiratory protection. Bat guano can carry the fungus that causes histoplasmosis, a lung infection, so it should not be swept or vacuumed without proper equipment.
